Making Memories with Shutterfly

As a well seasoned mom, there is nothing more evident to me than just how quickly time passes and children grow. While it seems like yesterday that my youngest was just a tiny little infant, I was watching him toddler around the house today and it hit me.. he’s not a baby anymore. Obviously, then I had that stereotypical mom question. “Where has the time gone??” I feel like he has grown leaps and bounds just in the last month. New milestones. New words. Then there is my oldest.. I swear, his looks change almost as frequently as the baby. His clothing style, his hair preference. He’s exhibiting more and more of his personality. He suddenly wants to have full control over what he wears and where it comes from. We can’t forget the middle two.. they are both in varying stages of adorable change. One just got glasses.. clearly a milestone worth remembering. There are loose teeth and crazy clothes.

Photos are a life saver. Photos let us capture ALL of those every day moments and hold on to them. Those small, soon to be forgotten moments. Tiny fingers. Toothless smiles. Purposely mismatched socks. You can capture all those moments in photos.. and thanks to Shutterfly, you can turn those moments into tangible keepsakes. Photobooks, prints, and the wide variety of photo gifts are wonderful ways to look back on those moments whenever you want to. They are sure to put a smile on your face.

Stonyfield Farm also knows how important those moments are, especially for parents of young children — That is why they have teamed up with Shutterfly to provide a code for $20 off your first Shutterfly purchase on 6-packs of Stonyfield YoBaby and YoTot yogurt. (Offer ends February 29, 2016. Minimum purchase of $20 before shipping. One offer per household)

As a Stonyfield Farm Ambassador, I was provided with a code to capture my own memories. I used my Shutterfly code to make a water bottle. I am an avid water drinker, so it’s something I can have with me always to look at and remember those moments. I will treasure it, as the photos I chose to use — my youngest son’s first birthday — already seem to distant.

I ate a cow and I liked it..

So– not a cow in the sense that you all might be thinking. A small, bite sized cow. It was pink, tasted like strawberries and was organic. Yes.. that’s right. An organic pink cow that tastes like strawberries. You did, indeed, read that correctly.

FullSizeRender

What I am talking about are the new fruit snacks from Stonyfield Farm. Yes, the company that typically makes yogurt. As a Stonyfield Ambassador, Stonyfield was kind enough to send us this new addition to the Stonyfield line up as soon as they hit the market, and they did not disappoint.

FullSizeRender_1

We have been a fruit snack free home for a long while.. much to my children’s disdain. They go to a school where the only option is to bring a lunch from home. We try to make it as healthy of a lunch as we can, and I’m sorry kids, but traditional fruit snacks just don’t fall into that category. Until now — and they are thrilled.

FullSizeRender_2

The fact that they are organic makes me so happy. (So happy, in fact, I even let the toddler eat them.. fear not, he is older than he appears..) With as many processed, genetically modified, who-knows-what foods targeted at kids now days.. I love that Stonyfield has taken a step to give kids what they want, at the same time as giving moms what we want. These fruit snacks are made with real fruits and vegetables. They have no artificial ingredients or preservatives. They also contain 100% DV of vitamin C!

IMG_0004

Obviously, I couldn’t just let the children eat these. If I were going to give you a true review, I would have to eat them too.. right? Yeah.. apparently I needed to review them a lot. I’m pretty sure over the course of the last two weeks, I lost track of how many “test” packs I “had” to consume. This usually resulted in my kids saying something like “MOM! These are our fruit snacks!” Goodness. Don’t they understand mommy is “working”??

Meet the *NEW* Lillebaby Essentials – For all of life’s Essential Moments

Imagine if you will.. you arrive at a destination. You’re already in a hurry and your older child starts doing the dance. You know the dance. The crossed leg, booty shaking.. “I’ve got to peeeeeeee” dance. .. you don’t want to have to spend a lot of time trying to get the baby up in a carrier- but you know you can help the other child successfully use the bathroom and juggle the baby in your arms without someone touching something. Wouldn’t you love a carrier that you could successfully put on with a quick click here, click there, wiggle and BAM! Done. Right? Off to help your child use the bathroom and everyone exits unscathed. Well, hopefully, anyway. Life doesn’t stop. There’s always groceries to buy, bathrooms to use, parks to play at, school pick up. These are essential parenting moments.

Introducing the Essentials Carrier by Lillebaby! All of the class and style of Lillebaby that we love so much, with an added simplicity for all of life’s essential moments. With a special thanks to Lillebaby for providing me with the carrier to get to know ahead of release – I’m going to help you get the know the Essentials so you can see how it will make your essential moments a little easier.

DSC_0876

Style: The Essentials definitely has style in mind. Currently available in a grey and white chevron pattern, it isn’t flashy. Isn’t loud. It is sure to compliment most outfits for both mom and baby. IMG_8897

Adjustable: One of the features on this carrier is the ability to adjust the straps 3 ways, and carry in 4 positions. You not only have the 2 way strap adjusters, but you now have a PFA (Perfect Fit Adjuster) at the base of the strap giving you the ability to get the straps even tighter/shorter. This lets the carrier work for even more body types and sizes as well as make breastfeeding while wearing easier to accomplish. You can also carry in 4 positions, unlike many other SSC’s (soft structure carriers). You can do the traditional front and back carry.. but with the Essentials you can also do a hip and an infant carry (With insert, sold separately). You also have the option of crossing the straps to get an even more custom fit.

Image-1

Essential Size

Back to Basics: This carrier is extremely functional, without a ton of bells and whistles to complicate it. It’s easy to get on. Easy to adjust. Now that I have it adjusted the way I like it, when I get to my destination I just grab it, click the belt on, put baby in and click the chest clip and we’re ready! No messing around with it. With that said, while still remaining simple, it does boast the Lillebaby Pocket on the front. Large and perfect for carrying an assortment of items. I can fit my phone, a diaper or two, some snacks.. it’s perfect.

Essentials Basic

Hood: The hood is attached on the Essentials, and has a stowaway pocket. It is made from a very soft mesh, similar to that of basketball shorts. (I live in a house of boys.. that’s all I can think to compare it to.. forgive me.) It offers great coverage, while remaining light and airy. It secures to the straps with an elastic pull loop that connects to a hook-like clip. This hook-like clip can slide up and down the strap, again very adjustable.

Essentials Hood

Lumbar: While this carrier does not come with a lumbar support, Lille-Lovers do not distress. It is compatible with the lumbar support. If you already own a Lille (or many.. If you’re like me..) Just grab one from your other carrier and slide it on the essentials if you want to use it. You will also be able to buy a lumbar support separately to be used with the Essentials. I must confess, the bright Lille-Citrus colored lumbar support from my Citrus Embossed carrier looks really awesome with the Essentials.

Essentials Lum

Affordability: Now that you’ve seen all that the Essentials has to offer, let me tell you the best (and my husband’s favorite..) part. This carrier will hit the market at a very affordable $89.99!! A durable, practical carrier for all of your essential needs… for under $100 brand new. Obviously, this means I can buy more than one, correct?

Lillebaby Essentials2

Note: I am a Lillebaby Brand Ambassador and I was provided the Essentials Carrier to write this post. I was not otherwise compensated. All opinions expressed are my own.

A story about a duck..

Once upon a time, there was a duck. A rubber duck. He was small, and adorable, and a little boy’s favorite bath time companion. This little duck set sail many, many times in the sea of bath. One day, the little boy’s mom picked up the little duck and, while preparing him for another adventure, she noticed something awful. The little duck was full of mildew. Yuck! So, the little duck found his final destination.. the garbage can.

No more little ducks found their way into the little boy’s bath.. or toy box. Until today. Thanks to the wonderful people at Rubba Ducks for providing us a new ducky friend who is not only incredibly cute, but is also made without any holes so — you guessed it — NO MILDEW! They are also weighted at the bottom so not only do they float, but they float upright. Always. (Note: This post is sponsored by the fabulous people at Rubba Ducks. All opinions expressed are my own)

How awesome is that??

DSC_0858

The only thing more awesome, is that the fabulous people at Rubba Ducks are so excited about their new Boathouse at Disney Springs adventure, that they want to give one of you the chance to win a Rubba Duck of your own!! Yay! And for more fun: Please visit Rubba Ducks on their social media outlets. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Color themes for baby..

As most of you know (or should know from reading this blog..) I have a ridiculous love for baby gear. All gear. And clothes. And toys. Okay, I just have a crazy obsession for all things themed baby. More fun than just the gear, is finding gear that coordinates. If I pick a color or a theme and can find some fun gear to form a “look” for baby, its so exciting.

I was recently introduced to Polyvore. At first I took it up and started planning outfits. It was so much fun. I could lay out mommy and me styles and I would know how it all looked together. I can post it on Instagram or Pinterest and not have to worry about hunting down each piece again. Then I realized… I can use Polyvore to do style boards for baby gear, too. Oh man. Since then I have been on a crazy polyvore baby gear theme kick. And its SO much fun!!! (Please note: **This post does contain an affiliate link**)

FullSizeRender_3 (2)I’m currently in a huge Navy kick. It’s such a fun color. Bright and playful, but basically a neutral. It works for both boys and girls and can be accented with numerous bright colors. Love. This particular board is gorgeous and modern. Featured here is a Nook Sleep Systems “Pacific Blue” Lilypad play mat. A comfortable and eco-friendly option for floor time.(Don’t you want baby to lay and breath on a chemical free mat??)  An adorable Little Giraffe onesie boasting the phrase “Be Small & Love All” in navy print. The Ubbi diaper pail in navy is a fabulous solution for nurseries. Clean and colorful. The Timi and Leslie diaper bag is a great on the go bag, that doesn’t even look like a diaper bag. I’m pretty sure I saw someone who no longer had small children carrying this bag around.. and if I didn’t know the brand, I wouldn’t have known it was a diaper bag! Add in the colorful style of the Maxi Cosi Mico infant car seat, and you’re definitely boasting some beautiful navy style. Last but not least, the *ahhhhh* gorgeous Navy Embossed Lillebaby. It’s amazing and beautiful. It’s also comfortable and extremely light weight.

FullSizeRender_1 (2)And then there is grey/silver. This has definitely been a long time favorite of mine for babies. Something soft and gentle, but not white. It can also be accented with a variety of colors.. both bright and pastel. Very versatile and clean. This board is so comfortable looking. It starts with an adorable Newborn Essentials one piece from Baby Gap. One of my favorite pieces for tiny babies. Below that is an Aden + Anais gift set in shades of grey and white. These blankets and the lovie are so soft, completely washable, and so sweet. Warm enough for cool nights, cool enough for warm days. Beneath the Aden + Anais is a fabulous JJ Cole diaper bag. I’m loving the simple style of this bag. The soft grey fabric makes it very neutral, not just for baby.. but for mom or dad, too. Next, again — a Nook Sleep Systems Lilypad in “Misty.” I can see this in a living room, and it wouldn’t even look like a baby product! Under that is the softest, most luxurious Little Giraffe blanket. The Lillebaby Charcoal with Silver All Seasons carrier is a great neutral piece, as well. A personal favorite. With a zip down panel revealing silver mesh material for breathability, you are sure to be comfortable and stylish regardless of the weather. Above the Lille is a brand new, completely amazing car seat. The Stokke Pipa. It’s a version of the Nuna Pipa that has been designed for Stokke and in Stokke fabrics. (This particular grey shade is “Black Milange” — I have a Black Milange Stokke and a Nuna Pipa in night and both are amazing. Combined?? A show stopper for sure!)

FullSizeRender_2 (2)Oh.. and then there is the fun playful brights. Always fun. Boys or girls can have bright and playful color schemes. The entire inspiration behind this particular board came from the amazing Lillebaby Tokidoki “Iconic” carrier. It’s bright and extremely colorful, but unbelievably gender neutral. The true “modern parent” style for babywearing. Also in this board is a Zutano newborn gown. If you want to add fun color to your baby’s wardrobe, Zutano is definitely the brand to go to. Fun and playful.. extremely soft fabrics. We also have some amazingly bright Aden + Anais pink star swaddle blankets. These blankets also come in other bright colors that would look amazing with this look as well.. but I find the pink stars that right pop of color, especially if you are planning for a spunky little girl. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you should have noticed the Nook Sleep Systems “Niche” feeding pillow. This is, no doubt, one of my favorite products for new parents. The best nursing pillow I have used. That same soft, chemical free, completely washable pebble fabric over a comfortable memory foam-type insert. Comfortable, tall, supportive. Another favorite of ours around here, is the Skip*Hop toys. This particular one is a bright teal hedgehog. Who doesn’t think this is the cutest toy? My son loves the beads on the top. Above that is the playfully colored 4Moms Rockaroo. An innovative solution to the baby swings of the past. Plush and comfortable. And then, we top it off with a vibrant pink Maxi Cosi convertible car seat.

FullSizeRender_3Black is one you wouldn’t think was a baby color, but black can be very sleek and modern for babies. Another one that you can accent with a variety of colors and have success with. This style board starts out with some amazing Freshly Picked studded black moccasins. Sure to keep any boy or girl styling. Next to those is one of my favorite infant car seats. The Cybex Aton Q. Its sleek, stylish, safe, and one of the most compact infant seats on the market. Obviously, a “Little black dress” onesie is a must for any trendsetting baby girl. Don’t forget, diaper’s are extremely stylish now, too. This “Glam Black” gDiaper is a great example. To the left of the diaper is a beautiful Lily-Jade diaper bag. Another bag that is sure to fool people. It definitely doesn’t look like a traditional diaper bag. A Little Giraffe dark charcoal blanket is perhaps not black, per say, but still has that chic dark look to it. Here, we have a Black Lillebaby Airflow carrier. The panel is made of layered mesh for optimal breathability. Quite possibly one of the most breathable and coolest carriers on the market right now. You can be cool, and look cool. Finally, The brand new product not even released yet.. the 4moms Bounceroo. When I saw this, I knew it was a must have item for modern new parents.

FullSizeRender_2Ohh.. and yellow. From bright sunshiny, to buttery soft.. yellow is a great palette for boys and girls. (Seriously.. most colors can be used for either gender easily.. even clearly without looking “neutral” dependent on how you accent them) While all of these products are definitely different shades of yellow, all of them are brilliantly bright and look fabulous together. Starting out is another of Lillebaby’s embossed line of carriers. This one is Citrus and its a beautiful shade of greenish yellow. Above the Lille is a fun playmat that can be pieced together to make as big or small as you need, the Playspot by Skip*Hop. Another colorful Maxi Cosi in a buttery yellow brings definite sunshine to your day. A Nook Sleep System knit blanket makes a fabulous, soft floor blanket. My older kids still love laying on this when playing on the floor or reading. A bright, colorful romper would make summer days perfect. Another fun, colorful gDiaper. These diapers are cute enough that you often don’t even feel the need to put pants on baby! A yellow giraffe teether toy from Aden + Anais is sure to capture the hearts of many littles. My PhiePhieMonster would have loved to have this when he was teething. A lovely yellow Petunia Pickle Bottom bag is a great place to store all of your wears as you’re on the go. I can’t forget about the adorable pineapple Freshly Picked Moccasins. They are so sweet, for boy or girl. And last, the lovely yellow and bamboo feeding bowl system from Avanchy.

FullSizeRender (2)Teal is another mainstay. I love teal. Pair teal with navy? Gorgeous. Teal with grey? Beautiful. Teal and yellow? Oooh mama. Love it. So many possibilities with teal. As you can see here, teal is a hot color in the baby world right now, too. The mama’s and papas seat is the perfect place for baby’s first taste of food or for interaction during family game night. The lovely and bright blooming bath cushion is cozy, practical and super fun. My babies have had many baths in the sink, and I’m only wishing these were around sooner. Playtime is always fun with Skip*Hop. This plush alphabet elephant is adorable and entertaining. Making an appearance once again is the Lillebaby embossed collection, this time in teal. Seriously, these are my favorite baby carriers… and the embossed collection? None like it. Also again, the soft and wonderful Aden + Anais muslin swaddle blankets. These are absolutely gorgeous in the bright teals hues. Next, what better to integrate baby’s furniture with your furniture, than the Pottery Barn My First Anywhere Chair. You can even customize it with your baby’s name, nickname, or initials. Love it! Your look is never complete with baby without a stylish bag to carry it in (We are the Diaper Bag Confessions.. what would our life be without diaper bags to obsess over??) This lovely Timi and Leslie teal Kate bag is sure to hit the mark for day or night. We can’t forget the adorable striped leggings and hoodie from Gymboree. Leggings are my favorite thing to put little ones in. Lastly, another fabulous regular in these boards.. a Boho chic Maxi Cosi Mico infant car seat. You’re sure to be stopped by people wanting to stare at your gorgeous car seat when using this one!

FullSizeRenderWhat about those achromatic fans? Anyone digging the  black and white trend for baby? I think this look has a lot of potential. Especially if you integrated a random pop of color here or there. (Or not.. its kind of cool as it is. While similar to the all black look, throwing a lot of white into the mix really changes the feel of the look all together. It’s even sharing some of the same items, yet still feels different. Here we have a gorgeous Nook Sleep Systems Pebble Pure crib mattress. It’s like giving baby a cloud to sleep on, natural and chemical free! I promise, you’ll want to sleep on it too. (If your husband is missing on night, check the crib!) For the days of travel, or for an area of the house not equipped with a bed, the Nuna Sena in Night is an amazing place for baby to securely spend some time. For naps or playtime, its sleek, light weight, easy to set up and very appealing aesthetically. The Glam Black gDiaper makes its appearance once again, as hey, you can never have too much of a cute clothed baby bum. Looking for a floor blanket that your baby will love playing on? The black Little Giraffe adult throw blanket is the perfect accent to a living room, that you can throw down whenever you need it for baby, then lay over the back of the couch or chair and it will look lovely when not in use. Everyone mom of a teething baby needs ChewBeads. This lovely black teething jewelry necklace is wonderful. I loop mine on my carrier and let baby have something to play with that isn’t my hair… Endless possibilities. The beautiful Lily-Jade Elizabeth bag is definitely a hit with young, modern moms. Seriously, did you even know that was a diaper bag?? It looks like a designer purse. It will probably give you many years of use, even when your kids are out of diapers and sippy cups. Hey look! Another appearance from the sleek black studded Freshly Picked Moccasins. The Ubbi diaper pail also shows itself here, but this time in a bright white color. Sure to accent an achromatic nursery well. What do you think of these adorable black and white blocks by Studio BGD ? Regardless of your color scheme, I think these are adorable. Maxi Cosi in the house again, this time a sleek black Mico with a bright white shell. It’s stunning. Hello, to the lovely 4moms Bounceroo, again. Seriously.. I may need another baby so I can buy this. We can’t forget the adorable Newborn Essentials one piece outfits from babyGAP. The perfect outfit for any baby. Especially if you decided not to find out if you’re bringing home a boy or a girl! And last but certainly not least… The all black Lillebaby Complete Original. 100% cotton carrier. 6 carrying positions. Crazy amazing lumbar support.

FullSizeRender_4Obviously, I can’t ignore the bright pink loving mamas. Expecting a little girl? Love Pink? This one may be the perfect board for you. Gymboree starts us off with a sweet pink dress. These outfits make me wish I had a girl. Paired with the brightly colored gDiaper? Seriously. I may need to make this girl thing happen. (Anyone know how to do this? We only know how to make them one way.. and its ALL boy.) The Nook Sleep Systems knit blanket is, as I said before, a favorite in our house and this lovely bright pop of pink is dreamy. A reappearance by the Aden + Anais pink star swaddles clearly needed to find itself here, as well as a bright pink version of the Blooming Bath. A Ju Ju Be diaper bag, perfect for the mama who has to carry ALL THE THINGS with her all the time accents this amazing Coral embossed Lillebaby carrier. Seriously, they are perfect together. Another Pottery Barn Anywhere chair, this time covered in hearts and perfect for a little princess. Let we not forget, style while traveling in completely chic safety. This Clek Fllo car seat is sure to turn heads. We have Clek car seats and people are constantly asking about them when they see them.

FullSizeRender_1The last of my color obsessions (for the moment..) is orange. ORANGE. Baby’s and orange. Why don’t I see more babies and orange? Or orange nurseries?? It’s beautiful. It’s bright. I think its vibrant and inspiring. The Orange Stokke Steps high chair and bouncer is one of my favorite products we use for our baby. The Nook Niche in Poppy?? The exact Niche that I own and I love it. It’s so happy to look at. The Orange/Cream Lillebaby Complete is one of my favorite colors that they make.. and I don’t own it (… yet…) It’s a shade of orange perfect for summer and fall.. bright like the sun, but also reminiscent of crisp autumn leaves. The Poppy Nook Sleep Systems knit blanket is also the one that found its home here with my children. A fabulous playful spot. The Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair? Would look fabulous in a bright and colorful playroom. Naturally, Aden + Anais doesn’t disappoint with their bright and fashionable muslin swaddles with orange accents. So pretty. Think Baby has a wonderful line of stainless steel feeding products for baby. Bright orange and free of leaching chemicals? Always a plus for baby. The orange Comotomo silicon teether and the Skip*Hop Bandanna Lion are the perfect addition to every toy box for baby. (Seriously.. your kid will get so much entertainment from that Skip*Hop Lion!) Some cute, bright orange high tops and complete the look with another fabulously colorful Maxi Cosi Mico and your nursery will be so brilliantly colorful!

Clearly, from all of these polyvore boards you get a sense of style for my favorite brands and products… but how amazing is it that you can find cute, quality baby gear from these brands in so many brilliant, sometimes vibrant, colors?

Regardless of you preference for baby, soft and subtle or bright and exciting, the baby gear industry is full of endless options for parents now. We aren’t in the land of teddy bear prints anymore. Chic is a now a defining word for baby gear and I love it.

Disneyland 2010 — Part of Disneyland 60 years in 60 days

2010 was not a major year as far as attractions go at Disneyland. The Captain EO Tribute opened, a revival of the once existing Captain EO attraction.  A few much anticipated “Coming Soon!” construction areas teased, and a few new things were added in California Adventure (World of Color debuted this year!!) but overall, 2010 was a pretty stable year regarding attractions within Disneyland. It made 2010 the perfect year to make our children’s first Disneyland memories.

DSC_0443DSC_0080You see, first trips to Disneyland are honestly the most remembered. The most talked about. You look back on them and think about how, overtime, the park has evolved and changed. You have something to reminisce about. This particular first trip was also the start of a tradition. We have since gone every 18 months with our very close family friends. The magic of Disneyland as a family is amazing. The magic of Disneyland with your closest friends, especially for children… nothing beats it. It’s full of pixie dust. We opted to go in late September, so the park was all set up for Halloween, which added an even more magical element to the experience.

DSC_0083

DSC_0085

Looking back at these photos, I see so much about the park that has changed.. from the entrance area to both parks.. that in 2010 still boasted large letters spelling out CALIFORNIA in front of DCA (Disney’s California Adventure) to rides that have changed or are no longer there. It’s so fun to look back and have these memories.

You don’t realize just how much changes… even while staying the same. We all know they have parades.. the parades are a main stay — but looking back on the pictures and remember these parades.. They have since been replaced with new parades. Different parades. Just as magical.. new memories to be made.. but this will always be my favorite. The first glimpse of Disney parade magic that captured the heart of my children. DSC_0282DSC_0326 DSC_0336

Pixie Hollow, while still there, has since received a makeover.. but I think I’ll always be partial to the Pixie Hollow of 2010. Where our littlest munchkins were crawling all over the flowers and mushrooms in front of the giant Fairy Journal. DSC_0242DSC_0156DSC_0170DSC_0174

2010 captured our families fondest memories… all of our families magical Disney firsts. From first ears: DSC_0341DSC_0389

First crushes: (Snow White.. she spent a good 35 minutes walking around with him… just him.. introducing him to her friends and showing him around the grounds, then she ended it with a kiss on the cheek. This is Disney Magic!!) DSC_0211DSC_0227DSC_0222DSC_0229DSC_0234DSC_0265First Trading Pins: (Including his first trade. A girl from our home state that he struck up a conversation with. He still remembers her and the pin she gave him.) DSC_0012DSC_0090DSC_0114

First Characters:DSC_0351DSC_0086DSC_0096DSC_0213DSC_0264

First Castles: DSC_0161

Disneyland in 2010 may not have held a lot of park milestones, but definitely held plenty of park magic and so many memories- for us and thousands of other families. Did your family make any Disney memories in 2010?? How about any firsts?

Happy, Happy 60th, Disneyland!! We look forward to enjoying your Diamond celebration and creating more pixie dusted memories with you!!

Thanks for reminiscing 2010 with me, and for following along with #60DaysTo60YearsAtDisneyland

The Diaper Bag Kids Read

Reading is something that is, and always has been, very important to me. A quiet escape from the chaos of life. Some of my fondest memories involve books. Spending Spring Break at my grandparents house, sitting on my grandma’s bed reading old books she kept in the top of her closet.. The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Freckle Juice.. so many wonderful books. So many pages turned through my fingers. I loved it. I craved it. I always hoped my children would have a love for books as well.

We always read to our kids. Especially my husband. Bedtime routine is not complete without a book (or 3..) to wind down the evening. As they are growing and learning, the story time routine is changing a bit. They want to be the ones reading now. As sad as I am to watch the tide change, I am rejoicing. Statistically, boys are less likely to have a love for reading. They lose interest in reading far more rapidly than girls do. My goal was, and always has been, to not let my boys become part of that statistic. There is a world of imagination and creativity found in books. This is incredibly important for boys and so far, my boys are embracing it.

kids read logo copy

I’ve decided to give my boys love for books a space here in the blog. A new (and first for The Diaper Bag Confessions!) vlog segment called “The Diaper Bag Kids Read” where they will read some of their favorite books. Lets face it, its educational, fun.. and adorable. The first book in this new series is B.J. Novak’s children’s book.. “The Book With No Pictures” – all of my children love it. We hope you and your children enjoy it as well! (Please ignore the fact that its vertical video.. by the time I realized it, it was too late and lets face it, you cannot re-create moments with children..)

Feel free to leave us some new book suggests that your children love. We’re always looking for new books to add to our library!

I do not want to find another doctor..

Let’s rewind 10 years. I hated going to the doctor. In fact, the only time I did go to the doctor after I turned 18 was when I fell and bit through my bottom lip. (I’m graceful, what can I say?) Then I got pregnant with my first baby. Going to the doctor wasn’t optional.. prenatal care is important. I wasn’t ecstatic about it, but I did it. To say it didn’t go well is an understatement. My group of providers knew nothing about me, other than what was in my chart. I felt my concerns were easily brushed off.. At 10 days overdue, they finally agreed to induce me after a stress test showed my baby wasn’t quite doing as well as he should be. After an eventful induction, meconium in the fluid, a delivery that nearly ended in a c-section and a call to the Emergency Resuscitation Team.. my baby was eventually born healthy. My provider didn’t hang around. Nor did she check on me later. In fact, I can’t say I’ve ever seen her since.

That experience did nothing to improve my hesitance to seek medical care for myself. However, I was a mom now.. I had to take care of myself. If I was going to do that properly, I knew I needed to find a doctor that I trusted to help me. I managed to find a good PCP that I was comfortable with and when we decided to expand our family, she informed me that because of some medical issues.. I would need to seek out an OB-GYN. I thought back to the prenatal experience I had with my oldest son and vowed never to do that again. So I researched. A lot of research. The first clinic I called, the receptionist was incredibly rude. Nope. That one was not going to work for me. (I’m sorry, but the entire staff needs to be good.. the doctor is not the only person we have to interact with!) I continued looking. I called several places and read many profiles.. then finally I came across the profile of a doctor that seemed perfect. I called her office and the receptionist was pleasant and helpful. I made an appointment.

Walking into the clinic I was pleasantly surprised. I already had experience with the receptionist. She previously worked at our son’s pediatricians office! Pleasant and friendly. Already a plus. Was shown back to a room by the medical assistant, also very happy and kind. Another plus. I was at ease for the first time ever walking into a doctors office. Strange, considering I was about to be given a pap smear by a doctor I’d never met. She came in the room and I had no regrets. She was what I was looking for. She made an effort, she listened.. she cared.

She would be my OB-GYN for 8.5 years. Through my struggle to get pregnant with our second son to surprise babies number 3 and 4. When pregnancy number 4 got stressful, thanks to that awful subchorionic hematoma, I knew that I could trust what she told me. I knew that she had my best interest in mind with everything she told me. She was honest. She was genuine. Best of all? She was fun. There was never a day she didn’t have me laughing at a visit.

(I do not have images like this from baby #1..)

Then the day came that she told me she would likely be leaving her practice. She told me while I was in labor with baby number 4, so obviously I cried. Then it soaked in. No.. no no no. This was not okay. I finally had a doctor I liked. One I trusted. One that was sitting with me, for hours, waiting for my baby to turn to a deliverable position while making sure my BP stayed stable. She came back to visit the day after I had him. She sat in my room for over an hour talking to me about what was going on and why. I cried more. Obviously the logical thing for a woman to do the day after giving birth. At my 6 week postpartum appointment I asked if she knew what was going on. She told me there was a 96% chance she’d be leaving.. “Just call and ask (the receptionist) where I went. She’ll tell you.”

Then came the day.. 6 months later.. I needed to make an appointment. A stranger answered. Not the sweet, friendly receptionist I had become accustomed to. Not the voice I had counted on hearing for the last 8+ years when I would call – and then this strange voice hit me with the wrecking ball. “She is no longer with our practice.. but we have another excellent female doctor joining us!” I managed to get out a polite “No, it’s not urgent.. I’m a long time patient and would rather see if she returns to practice..” when what I wanted to say was “WHAT?!? No! I do not want some other female doctor. Do you even know what it took to find this one??”

It’s been 4 months.. I probably should find a new provider, but so far I am refusing. I know, a bit melodramatic, right? I just can’t imagine I will find another physician quite like her. While I don’t know if we will have any more kids regardless of whether she returns or not… I most definitely do not think I would trust anyone else to deliver another of my babies.  So for now, I have resolved to just visiting my PCP for my current issues while I hold out hope.. some sort of hope.. that she will return.

I cannot be the only person who is this particular about their doctor.. right? Any of you have this sort of physician anxiety? It really takes the right one.. or the quality of care lacks. Never a good thing.

One positive, though… the fabulous receptionist? She isn’t permanently missing. In fact, she was transferred to my PCP’s office soI still get that small, familiar dose of happy any time I walk into that office!

A Piston Cup worthy Disney “Cars” party

I was honored, once again, to have been selected to host a #disneyside @Home party. This time around, we were chosen to host a “Cars” themed party, much to my children’s delight. What more does a house full of boys love than cars?

I decided to take the party a little healthier this time. Typically when we think about kid parties, they are usually full of candy and cupcakes and kids leave on an epic sugar high. While I did have a sweet treat (chocolate dipped Marshmallows!) the rest of the food was aimed towards balance. Thanks to Stonyfield Farm, the most popular snack was YoKids Organic Yogurt Squeezers. We also had berry muffins instead of cupcakes. Organic Fruit Leather instead of fruit snacks. And a simple chicken salad with pita chips —  and by simple, I truly mean simple. Nothing more than rotisserie chicken, apples, grapes, and organic plain yogurt! While the kids enjoyed it, the adults really liked it.

Besides the food, the kids had a blast playing games. In our #disneyside box, we were sent a “Pin the smile on Mickey” game. It was so much fun for the kids. It was definitely most fun for the slightly older kids, but all of the children enjoyed the game very much. Also – what is better entertainment for parents than blindfolded children wandering around the room attempting to stick a smile on random pieces of furniture (or sometimes other children..)?collage

Another popular game that we were sent was #disneyside Bingo. Even the young kids were really good at finding the matches that were called. They also enjoyed eating the popcorn that they used to mark their spaces once the game was done.

I got creative for one last game. What else does one do with a room full of young kids? Help them burn energy while playing an easy to understand game! So, going with the “Cars” theme, we played “Lightening Says.” This also proved quite entertaining.”Lightning says… jump up and down!”

Pit Stop! It wouldn’t be a social media party if it didn’t include a place to take themed selfies. Starting kids off young, wouldn’t you know? Haha. We had two wall posters where they could pose with the “Cars” stars and hold the #disneyside chalk board. They enjoyed it more than I thought they would. The Radiator Springs characters were the favorite, for sure. The other poster had all of the “Cars 2” characters in it and it was not quite as popular as Lightning and Mater. Even the baby had to show his #disneyside!

Outside of organized games, the kids had fun playing with the Disney Cars we had out and the simple road way I created with Washi Tape on our kids’ table. Amazing how fun something so simple can be! (Naturally, they had to use it for Baymax to save the world, with a little help from The Hulk.) This was incredibly popular with the younger, preschool aged crowd. A place to play alongside one another.. and without all of the grown ups bothering them with instructions.

We ended our fun with some amazing parting gifts. Of course, a lot of #disneyside fun was included thanks to Disney and the #disneyside sponsors. We are all excited to start planning our next Disney Parks Vacation. My kids even filled out their luggage tags. The bags were made even better thanks to my friends at Mattel for helping brings some car fun along and Stonyfield for providing even more yogurt!
